Prairie North Immunization Van makes it easy to have your child immunized this summer

July 3, 2012

Parents in North Battleford and Lloydminster will be able to have their children immunized ‘on-the-go' this summer, as Prairie North Health Region (PNHR) takes its childhood immunization program out into the community in its Immunization Van.

Prairie North public health nurses will hold childhood immunization clinics in the mobile clinic, which will travel throughout North Battleford and Lloydminster this summer. Parents can bring their children to the van to receive their required vaccinations against diseases, including measles, mumps, chicken pox, whooping cough (pertussis), meningitis, and tetanus, among others.

“This year's program builds on the success of last year,” says PNHR Manager of Public Health Services Diane Piper. “We have expanded it into Lloydminster and are excited about reaching even more families this summer.”

Children who are up to and including six years old can be immunized at the mobile clinic. The van will be clearly identifiable with the Prairie North logo and immunization van signage. Nurses will start seeing families around 10 a.m. and move throughout the city depending on how busy the clinic is in a certain location until about 4 p.m. Parents can call or text 306-441-1364 to find out where the van is located at a given time and for more general information.

“Each vaccination received helps protect that individual child, but it also improves protection for our entire community,” explains Piper. “If we can make immunization more convenient for families by going out to where they are this summer, it will be easier for everyone protect their families and community from preventable disease.”
